American wind power is on the rebound this year as strong growth in the U.S. industry accelerated during the first quarter of 2015. A near-record 13,600 megawatts (MW) of generating capacity is under construction across 100 projects in 23 states.

Advanced turbine technology is capturing faster, steadier winds at higher elevations – creating a “wind rush” by enabling more future development in the Great Lakes states and the Southeast, among other regions.

These maps illustrate how dramatically the latest innovations in wind turbine technology such as increasing turbine hub heights and longer, lighter blades are beginning to open the Southeast for economical wind energy development. Attending WINDPOWER 2015 will give reporters the opportunity to see, hear and engage with the industry today as it prepares to enter the final geographic frontier for U.S. wind power.

Underscoring that potential, this year’s conference is in a state boasting factories and corporate headquarters that will play pivotal roles in realizing the future expansion of this industry. Up to 2,000 well-paying jobs are supported by wind in Florida, among more than 73,000 across the country. Florida is home to wind industry leaders, including Siemens and NextEra Energy Resources, and the state has 15 manufacturing facilities supplying wind power parts and supplies.
