American wind power is on the rebound this year as strong growth in the U.S. industry accelerated during the first quarter of 2015. A near-record 13,600 megawatts (MW) of generating capacity is under construction across 100 projects in 23 states.

Advanced turbine technology is capturing faster, steadier winds at higher elevations – creating a “wind rush” by enabling more future development in the Great Lakes states and the Southeast, among other regions.

These maps illustrate how dramatically the latest innovations in wind turbine technology such as increasing turbine hub heights and longer, lighter blades are beginning to open the Southeast for economical wind energy development.
