Klüber Lubrication: Reliable lubrication at low temperatures

Ensuring wind energy supply during winter months is a particular challenge, not least because many lubricants do not provide reliable lubrication at temperatures below 0 °C. Klübersynth AG 14-61 from Klüber Lubrication is an adhesive lubricant for gear rim and pinion drives that was especially developed for use at low temperatures. The synthetic special lubricant has a wide service temperature range and remains suitably soft even at low temperatures. Klübersynth AG 14-61 can be applied by means of central lubricating systems at temperatures down to minus 30 °C. Consisting of synthetic base oil, selected solid lubricants and additives, the new adhesive lubricant offers excellent wear protection and good load-carrying and adhesive properties, contributing to extended gear rim and pinion drive lifetime.

Another benefit of Klübersynth AG 14-61 is its good adhesion and light colour. "The black lubricants used so far for yaw and pitch bearings often contain graphite, thus causing contamination inside and outside the wind turbine", explains Dr. Victor Camargos, Head of Business Unit Wind Energy at Klüber Lubrication. "Occupational safety for the maintenance staff is at risk due to slippery floors in the plant. Also, used lubricating grease leaking from the tower and the blades pollute the environment". Good adhesion and light colour of Klübersynth AG 14-61 reduce lubricant consumption, extend maintenance intervals of the wind turbine and significantly decrease contamination of the plant. In addition, efficient corrosion protection is ensured both during operation and extended periods of standstill.
"Operators save costs, also for disposal and storage, and extend maintenance intervals", says Camargos.
