After the completion of its first wind farm in Pakistan, Nordex has now received another firmly financed order for the FWEL II project, which is being installed in the Province of Sindh, roughly 80 kilometers from Karachi.

The 50 megawatt (MW) wind farm will be equipped with 20 N100/2500 multi-megawatt turbines configured for hot climates.

Nordex will be executing FWEL II on a turn-key basis together with Descon Engineering Limited (Pakistan). With the completion of its first project in 2012 and the establishment of a local company in Islamabad, Nordex has built itself a reputation for reliability and excellence in the Pakistan market. Nordex is now firmly the leading provider of wind turbines in the country, a position which is expected to be further cemented with down payments for other contracts later this year. FWEL II will go into operation in 2014, with Nordex and Descon providing service for the turbines for a period of at least five years under a premium contract.

The majority owner of the project is the Fauji Foundation (55%). Last year, Nordex built a 50 MW wind farm in Pakistan for an affiliate of Fauji Foundation. Other investors include the international infrastructure fund Cap Asia (25%) and the Tapal Group (20%). Most of the debt capital is being provided by international banks.

“I am pleased that with this project the first of the 250 MW of contracts in Pakistan will commence. It shows us that the Pakistani market holds tremendous potential that can be realized by Nordex,” says Lars Bondo Krogsgaard, a member of Nordex SE’s Management Board.
