Wind Industry Profile of

UK customers ordering Nordex N100/2500 for inland sites

The United Kingdom has the best wind conditions anywhere in Europe.

Hamburg, 21 December 2012.  Even so, a new trend in favour of inland wind farms on industrial or so-called “brown-field” sites is emerging in this country as well. “We are registering heightened interest on the part of customers in installing wind power stations close to industrial consumers. Of course, due to the proximity to built-up areas, this particularly also calls for compliance with low noise emission levels,” says Lars Bondo Krogsgaard, a member of Nordex’s Management Board.

Following on from its past success on industrial sites at Newport, Eye Airfield, the Port of Liverpool, Hull, Loftsome Bridge and Glaxosmithkline’s pharmaceutical production site at Irvine in Scotland, the wind turbine manufacturer has recently received further two contracts for its medium-wind system N100/2500 from the United Kingdom. Nordex will be installing the first three wind farms for utility Severn Trent Water PLC in Central England in 2013 under a single supply contract, together with a fifteen year maintenance agreement. A further supply contract has been awarded by Bristol City Council at Avonmouth Docks. The council wants to improve its track record in environmental protection and also reduce its own electricity costs with a wind power system.

All told, the two contracts account for a capacity of 15 megawatts. Explains Krogsgaard: “Measured in terms of the contracts of a total volume of more than 130 MW which we have received from the United Kingdom this year, this doubtless marks only the beginning of an interesting new development.”
