EWEA and WindEnergy - International Trade Fair - continue successful cooperation

Following successful cooperation in 2004, the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) will once more be the official international cooperation partner at WindEnergy 2006 - International Trade Fair - in Hamburg. Dietmar Aulich, Managing Director of Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH, and Corin Millais, CEO of EWEA, signed an agreement on cooperation at the European Wind Energy Conference in London on 22 November 2004. "The continuation of this cooperation underscores the position of WindEnergy as the premier international fair for the whole of this industry, and is a clear 'Yes' by the international wind companies to the choice of Hamburg as venue for the fair. The active support of the largest wind energy association will help us to strengthen the position of the WindEnergy as an information platform for this highly international industry", declared Mr. Aulich.

The WindEnergy 2006 - International Trade Fair - will be held in Hamburg from 16 to 19 May 2006, and will for the third time be the meeting point for the international wind energy industry. EWEA represents 220 members from 40 countries, covering 98% of the global wind energy market. "There is no question that the future of the wind industry lies in creating strong international markets. We are pleased to be working side by side with our German partners. The Hamburg International Trade Fair is a vital platform to help us move the industry forward on the world stage. The global wind market could total 150 GW by 2012", said Corin Millais.

In addition to this international partnership, the WindEnergy is cooperating with the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) and the German Wind Energy Institute (DEWI). "We very much welcome the continued cooperation with the EWEA, as this underscores the importance of WindEnergy as the leading international fair for the industry. The successful establishment and development of export markets depends on strong partnerships. The EWEA has a strong international network, which makes it particularly important in attracting visitors to the fair" said Thorsten Herdan, Executive Director of the Power Systems Unit of the VDMA.

Jens-Peter Molly, Head of the German Wind Institute DEWI, regards this cooperation as a "positive, and above all encouraging signal for what we hope will be the beginning of a process of focussing the wind energy on just a few major events".

The international trade fair runs from 16 to 19 May 2006, giving manufacturers and equipment suppliers for wind energy converters, and also planners, finance institutes, surveying and certification organisations and experts from research and development an international platform for further development of this market of the future.


In 2004 the second WindEnergy attracted more than 10 000 trade visitors, nearly 30% of these from abroad (that is 40% up on the first WindEnergy in 2002). More than 330 companies from 18 nations presented their innovations and new services for all aspects of wind energy, and there were twice as many exhibitors from abroad.
