Higher quality site analysis for small wind turbines
However, SWTs should only be built at sites with appropriate wind conditions. Wind maps give a first but insufficient insight into the site’s quality. In addition there are a lot of local factors to be considered:
height above the ground and roughness of the ground’s surface, turbulence and shading from buildings and vegetation, effects of the topology around the site.Only wind monitoring on site provides a trustworthy and cost-effective overview about the quality of a wind site. Wind monitoring is one of the steps in a SWT project. Nowadays, numerous professional SWT distributors offer all services needed to set up a SWT successfully.
