Brazil - Abengoa and Santander to develop 74 MW of Brazilian wind power

Abengoa, known in the renewables energy as a concentrating solar thermal power, is also developing wind energy in Uruguay, where it won a state contract to build a 50 MW wind farm in Peralta, Tacuarembó

Abengoa receives contract to develop three wind power plants in Brazil. Abengoa, a Spain-based company that applies concentrated solar power, has announced that it has been chosen by ANEEL, to develop three wind farm plants. This new contract strengthens Abengoa's position in the wind energy market, after winning another contract in March from the Uruguayan state electricity company to develop a 50 MW wind farm in Peralta, Tacuarembo, Uruguay, the company added.

The wind farm project will be carried out as a joint venture between Abengoa and Banco Santander Brazil. The wind energy produced by the wind turbines will be sold to Brazil’s National Energy Agency (ANEEL).

Abengoa, the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for concentrated solar power, has been chosen by ANEEL, the Brazilian National Electricity Agency, to develop three wind farms with a total installed power of 64 MW in Brazil, in a joint venture with Banco Santander Brazil.

Abengoa will be responsible for constructing, operating and maintaining the three wind farm plants for 20 years, which will be constructed in Ceará State, northeast Brazil. This new wind turbines project will supply renewable energy to around 200,000 people and will prevent annual emissions of more than 400,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

The company will operate the wind farms for a period of 20 years under a concession agreement, which will also determine a guaranteed fixed price for every MWh of electricity generated. The project also includes the sale of the energy to the National Electricity Agency.

This new contract further strengthens Abengoa’s position in the wind energy market, after winning another wind power contract in March from the Uruguayan state electricity company (UTE) to develop a 50 MW wind farm in Peralta, Tacuarembó, Uruguay.
