Azerbaijan - Vestas sells 16 wind turbines for wind park at Shurabad, just off the Guba highway, 55 kilometres from Baku
The Caspian Technology Company has started to lay out a wind farm at Shurabad, just off the Guba highway, 55 kilometres from Baku.
The Caspian Technology Company's technical director, Nazir Ramazanov, said the wind farm would have 16 wind turbines with a capacity of 3 MW each, giving the wind farm a total capacity of 48 MW.
Work has already started to assemble the wind turbines, produced by the company Vestas.
Energy production will start in the second quarter of 2011, with production of 201m kWh per year, a saving of 57m cubic metres' of gas used to generate electricity in thermal power stations.
The Caspian Technology Company will sell the wind power to the Baku electricity grid, Bakielektrikshebeke. Under the contract, Bakuelektrishebeke will pay Caspian Technology 4.5 gapiks ($0.056) per kilowatt hour. A second wind farm with a capacity of 100 MW is to be built nearby.
The Caspian Technology Company has carried out a pilot project in Yeni Yashma settlement. The electricity generated by the two wind turbines at Yeni Yashma is sold to Bakielektrikshebeke. Azerbaijan is looking to generate 3-5% of its energy from renewable sources.
