No fear of overheating. Aailon provides replacement of rotor cables for Vestas MW generators
Availon, the leading independent provider of WTG maintenance services for Vestas® turbines of type V66 VCS, V80 and V90 2.0 MW, has extended its portfolio of upgrades.
Individual components of Wind Turbine Generator Systems (WTGs) are subjected to substantial stressing during operation. Analyses of failure data show that a not inconsiderable number of failures occur at rated output.
Recently, rotor cables of the generator have, in particular, been found to overheat, causing irreversible damage and not insignificant losses in revenue. Overheating of the rotor cables can already be diagnosed by a visual inspection, but replacement of damaged cables is, however, inevitable.
Availon now offers replacement of rotor cables for V80 VCS and V90 2.0 MW turbines. Existing rotor cables are replaced with the latest generation of cables featuring a greater cable cross section. This upgrade guarantees improved stress resistance and thus also the smooth operation of the WTG, even during high-wind periods.
Special tools and working processes, allowing a cost-efficient replacement of the rotor cables directly in the WTG without the need for an external crane, have been developed for this upgrade. .
The upgrade for WTGs of type V80 VCS and V90 2.0 MW is available as of immediately.

About Availon GmbH:
In September 2010, SSB Service GmbH was renamed Availon GmbH. This was the Rheine company’s reaction to its growing commitment in the international WTG servicing business, consistently extending at the same time its global strategic position as independent WTG service provider. The name “Availon“ was derived from the term “Availability“. In order to ensure a high level of availability and thus yields for WTGs in the long-term, the independent worldwide service partner must offer permanent operational readiness – i.e. a high level of availability.
Since its formation in 2007, the current Availon GmbH has established itself as the leading independent provider of WTG maintenance services. At present, the full-service company operates with over 170 employees in Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Italy, and the USA.
Availon GmbH currently maintains more than 1,000 MW worldwide.
The company´s proactive, complete service for worldwide WTGs includes the entire value-added chain, including remote monitoring and maintenance, the provision of spare parts, troubleshooting and the optimization of wind turbines. And all this is monitored by a DQS-certified quality management system.
Availon GmbH is the first independent WTG service provider to be fully certified by the Germanischer Lloyd in all processes required for the servicing operation.
