UK - Certification for small wind turbines in the UK
The British market for small wind turbines will grow by a projected 181% in 2010 according to independent reports. Today, the UK is the second largest wind energy market in the world for small wind power systems.
GL Renewables Certification (GL) is now accredited as a MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) Certification Body which allows manufacturers of small wind turbines to seek GL certification enabling buyers of their systems to qualify for UK financial incentives.
A broad range of certification services for small scale wind turbine manufacturers adds to cost efficient certification of turbines to IEC 61400-2:2006, BWEA Standard 2008-02 and MCS. GL Renewables Certification is recognized to carry out Product Certification for Micro and Small Wind Turbines. This involves the assessment and testing of the products and the manufacturing evaluation.
The installation of small wind energy systems in the UK is particularly interesting for homeowners and businesses. With a strong home base, UK small wind turbines manufacturers are becoming a major force in fast-expanding international markets. Certification of wind turbines and related equipment is a precondition for export.
The MCS is the only certification scheme to cover all micro generation products and services in the UK. With the support from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and industry and non-governmental groups, it is a prime method for making a substantial contribution to cutting the UK's dependency on fossil fuels and carbon dioxide emissions.
