Start-up assistance for new wind energy markets – delegations make key contacts for market launch and expansion at Husum WindEnergy

HUSUM WindEnergy 2010, the leading fair for the international wind energy industry, to be held in Husum from 21 to 25 September, highlights not only the world’s largest wind markets, but also the markets that want to move in that direction. More and more governments are opting for programmes to expand wind energy, as they attach more importance to combating climate change and turn increasingly to renewable energy resources.

HUSUM WindEnergy is a key point of contact for these emerging wind markets – a place where all the major players meet, and where the latest products can be ordered. Examples of such wind markets are Argentina and Uruguay – these South American states want to invest in the use of wind energy, and a delegation of more than 30 policy makers from the Argentine and Uruguayan wind sectors will be visiting the trade fair.

Argentina has so far been an uncharted area on the wind industry’s world map, but now a tender procedure has been launched for a total of 754 MW wind energy capacity. According to the German-Argentine Chamber of Industry and Commerce, wind projects with a total volume of 1436.5 MW have been submitted. The Argentine Wind Energy Association AAEE indicates that Vestas has won the contract for most of the projects, while the rest have gone to the local manufacturer IMPSAwind. Other companies already present in Argentina are Enercon and NRG Patagonia, though only with smaller quantities.

Further projects with a capacity of more than 2000 MW are currently at the detailed planning stage. Legislation adopted by Argentina stipulates that 8% of electricity supply must be obtained from renewables by 2016. Wind energy is to account for 50% of this. At present, wind turbines with a total output of 29 MW are installed.

In the neighbouring country of Uruguay, the electric company UTE has launched tender procedures for 150 MW of wind power. That resulted in submission of projects with a total capacity of 945.6 MW. An expansion of the tender to 300 MW is currently in preparation. Further wind farms are in construction in parallel to that. According to the Chamber of Commerce, the wind energy market in the South American Mercosur region, to which both these countries belong, already presents an internationally attractive volume of business.

The purpose of the delegation trip to Germany is the development of continuous business contacts for this significant expansion of the wind energy market in Argentina and Uruguay. The members of this high-calibre delegation from associations, companies and public institutions from the two South American countries will meet the suppliers of wind turbines and service providers for planning and implementation of wind energy projects at HUSUM WindEnergy 2010. They will learn about the advantages of the latest technology and take up direct contact with internationally active companies. In addition to HUSUM WindEnergy, they will also visit the production plants of leading wind energy companies.

High-ranking delegations from many other wind energy markets are also expected at HUSUM WindEnergy 2010. This leading trade fair of the international wind industry will be held in cooperation between Messe Husum and Hamburg Messe. More than 950 companies from at least 30 countries will present their products and services in Husum from 21 to 25 September, including the world’s leading wind turbine manufacturers and their component suppliers. This trade fair, entirely dedicated to wind energy, will be the international meeting point and forum for companies and trade visitors.
