Labkotec launches new LID-3300IP Ice Detector

The Finnish Labkotec Ltd has introduced a new generation LID-3300IP Ice Detector, an ice detector with an integrated web user interface for remote access. The Detector is especially designed for wind turbines in arctic conditions.

The LID-3300IP has gone through extensive testing at wind turbines in Europe and Northern Finland as well as at VTT (Technical Research Centre of Finland), a globally networked multitechnological contract research organization.

The new ultrasound-based ice detector offers many considerable advantages. The equipment is compact and easy to install. It is ready to use without calibration and fits all turbines from different manufacturers, including older models.

The LID-3300IP is easy to connect to wind turbine control systems using a relay, current data, serial or TCP/IP interface. Operational modes, alarms and parameters can be monitored and adjusted through an inbuilt web user interface.

The Labkotec Ice detectors have been specially designed for the detection of ice on arctic wind turbines and meteorological weather stations. Ice can cause significant damage to the surroundings when falling off of rotor blades. It also considerably reduces the production capacity of wind turbines and burdens the construction subsequently increasing the need for maintenance. Labkotec Ice detector applications are used in wind turbines, airports and weather stations. Currently all of Finland’s airfields including the international Helsinki-Vantaa airport are supplied with Labkotec ice detectors to ensure aviation safety.
