Puerto Rico - New plan approved to build 25 new wind generators
The Government of Puerto Rico approved a plan for the construction of 25 wind generators with
capacity to provide electricity to 20,000 homes on the island. The complex will generate 120 MWh of power per year and will be built by Windmar Renewable Energy Inc., based in the island.
The electric company owned by Government plans to increase their investments in generators from
natural gas, wind and waves, as well as other types of alternative energy, field that has made little
progress. However, environmentalists have attempted obstruction of the project on the grounds that several species of endangered bird could lose its Habitat in the forest.
