Canada - Siemens gets Thunder Bay wind turbine contract
Siemens Energy announced Wednesday that it has been contracted to supply 43 wind turbines for a clean energy project near Thunder Bay, Ont. Siemens said the turbines will be delivered to Montreal-based Renewable Energy Systems Canada Inc., which also purchased 43 turbines last fall for a project near Chatham, Ont.
Siemens said it will install the turbines at the Greenwich wind energy project near Thunder Bay, which is expected to be running in June 2011. "The Greenwich Wind Energy Project will bring the many benefits of renewable energy to the Township of Dorion and surrounding communities that includes up to 300 construction jobs," Andrew Fowler, vice-president of construction at Renewable Energy Systems Canada said in a news release.
Meanwhile, the Chatham project is still ongoing and Siemens said it expects the contract to be completed in December. In total, the two Ontario wind farms are expected to provide clean power for more than 60,000 Canadian homes. Siemens and Renewable Energy Systems Americas have partnered on a number of projects since Siemens entered the wind power market in December 2004.
