Spain - Danish wind turbine Vestas wins 40 orders
Vestas, the Danish maker of wind turbines which has been forced to cut jobs because of a lack of demand, said on Wednesday it had won 40 new turbine orders for three projects in Spain. The order is for 24 V90-2.0 mW and 16 V90-1.8 mW turbines, the firm said. The first turbines are set to be delivered and installed by the end of 2009, Vestas said, without revealing the value of the deal or the locations. Vestas earlier said it was cutting 425 jobs and closing a plant in Southampton in southern England and another one on the nearby Isle of Wight as part of plans to cut 1,900 jobs in northern Europe this year.
