USA - REpower to target larger slice of booming U.S. market
As Dutch wind turbine-maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S plans a massive U.S. headquarters in Portland, a global wind turbine company down the street is quietly fighting to build its share of the fast-growing U.S. market.
REpower USA Corp., a Portland-based subsidiary of German wind turbine-maker REpower Systems AG, installed its first turbines on U.S. soil last year — the 94 megawatt, 47-turbine Goodnoe Hills Windfarm east of the Columbia Gorge near Goldendale, Wash.
It was an auspicious U.S. debut for the company, which has operated a Portland office since the end of 2007.
“We’ve kept a fairly low profile,” said Steve Dayney, CEO of REpower USA Corp.
