Mexico - Tamaulipas obtained the State congressional approval to generate wind power.
The initiative held by the State Government of Tamaulipas, which includes the electricity supply for 43 municipalities from wind power, and at the same time bring an economic saving of 5%, has been approved by the Sustainable Development Committee of the State Congress.
To hold this ambitious and innovative public initiative, a wind farm with around 70 turbines will be installed in “Los Vergeles”, in a land of 2,200 hectares. It will have a capacity of just over 454 GW/year.
The highest state authorities have stressed that one of the most significant advantages, in addition to generating clean energy and allow sustainable development through power self-supply is the ability to obtain carbon credits by reducing the emission of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas.
Finally, this project was made possible by the support, both financial and institutional, from the North American Development Bank (NADBank), the Border Environmental Commission and the Secretariat of Energy of Mexico.
