ENEL AND SOWITEC SIGN JOINT DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT

SEVEN WIND POWER PROJECTS IN CHILE WITH A TOTAL CAPACITY OF 850MW

Sonnenbühl, 08 May 2009 SoWiTec Energias Renovables de Chile Ltda., subsidiary of project developer SoWiTec international GmbH headquartered in Sonnenbühl (Germany), has signed development agreement with Enel Latin America (Chile) Limitada to develop wind power generation in the northern and central regions of the country. Through this agreement Enel contracts the exclusive development by SoWiTec on seven wind power projects in Chile for a total capacity of up to 850 MW as well as the title to acquire these projects once they are completely developed by SoWiTec. The projects have a preliminary capacity ranging between 60 to 150 MW and are located in the northern electrical system (SING) and central electrical system (SIC) of Chile, in areas presenting good wind potential. Thanks to this agreement SoWiTec and Enel will further increase their presence in the promising Chilean market for renewable energy, characterized by an interesting wind potential to be exploited in the coming years. Enel is already present in Chile since 2001 where it operates 2 hydro plants for a total installed capacity of 90 MW and has four geothermal concessions under exploration, in partnership with ENAP (Empresa National de Petroleo); one of them, the estimated 40 MW Quebrada del Zoquete project located in Region II of Atacama, is actually in deep exploration phase with an expected commercial operation date in 2012. Enel Green Power is the Enel Group’s company, aimed at developing and operating power generation from renewable sources in Italy and around the world. The company business incorporates all of Enel’s activities in the wind, solar, geothermal, run-of-the-river hydroelectric and biomass fields in Europe, North America and Latin America with a total installed capacity of nearly 4,500 MW and 17, 2 TWh of produced energy in 2008.SoWiTec has developed 30 wind parks with an installed capacity of some 100 MW during the last ten years. International activities have been progressively launched since 2005. SoWiTec shows to be currently the largest project developer in Latin America with a project pipeline of over 20,000 MW in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Peru, representing a total investment of approximate 40 billion Euros. As the Latin America wind specialist SoWiTec further expands its project development activities in order to tap the excellent wind resources and respond to the booming demand for new, renewable energy generation capacities, thus securing itself a sustainable leading position on Latin American Markets.
