Chile - The German company SoWiTec will develop a wind farm in the Region II.
At Southeast of Calama, in region II, the German firm SoWiTec will carry on the construction of the “Valle de los Vientos” wind farm, through an investment of U 200 million. In order to move forward, they had to submit its Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to the National Environmental Commission (CONAMA).
The plan is to install 33 wind turbines of 3MW each, reaching a total power of 99MW. These will be connected to the Interconnected System of Norte Grande, which supplies electricity to towns and mining stocks of the regions I, II, and XV.
Also, company sources reported that the lifetime of the project is 20 years. To carry out the construction of the wind farm, they consider creating about 240 new jobs, although this quantity will be largely reduced when it enters into full operation.
