Nordex receives another order for large turbines from Portugal
Nordex AG has received its second order for the turnkey installation of an N90 wind farm in Portugal. The manufacturer will be delivering nine turbines from its latest N90/2,300 kW series for the "Carreço/Outeiro" wind farm for the Portuguese developer GENERG. The order is worth approx. EUR 21 mn and includes the infrastructure and electrical work, a transformer, technical management and maintenance of the farm over five years.
The wind farm is to be built at an altitude of 500 meters in the Santa Luzia mountain range near the city of Viana do Castelo in the north-west of Portugal. With average wind speeds of approx. 8 m/s at a hub height of 80 meters, the 20.7 megawatt farm will produce an annual yield of around 64,500 MW/h. The first on-site work has already started and the farm is due to be completed at the end of 2004.
Only last year Nordex signed the first contract with a Portuguese customer to supply 15 N90 turbines, which are also to be erected this year. "This means that we shall probably be further increasing our market share in the growth region of Portugal", says Carsten Pedersen, COO Sales at Nordex AG. While the number of new installations in Portugal approximately doubled, in 2003 Nordex achieved a market share here of some 12 per cent.
Experts project strong growth potential for Portugal. This is due to the government development target. 3750 MW in wind power capacity is to be installed in the country by 2010, which is tantamount to annual growth of almost 500 MW.
