USA - Upstate New York power grid receives 330 MW wind power boost
The Altona, Chateaugay and Wethersfield Wind Parks in Upstate New York have been completed, bringing a total of 330 megawatts (MW) of power online for the upstate New York power grid. The projects produce 97.5, 106.5 and 124 MW each respectively.
The projects were developed by Noble Environmental Power LLC. Careba Mott MacDonald (CMM) served as the design engineer for all three projects, responsible for electrical and structural engineering of the interconnecting substations, transmission lines, and collector systems.
All three of the Wind Parks utilize the General Electric 1.5SLE wind turbine, which are rated at a capacity of 1.5 MW. The Altona Wind Park is comprised of 65 turbines and 21.1 miles of collector lines, Chateaugay has 71 turbines and 33 miles of collector lines and Wethersfield is the largest wind park with 84 turbines and 60 miles of collector system.
Noble will sell the power from the wind farms into the New York power market. It will also sell renewable energy credits to green energy marketers, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and others.
