Germany - Nordex with above-average growth
Last year, Nordex AG again grew more quickly than the market, with new installed capacity rising by around 60 percent over the previous year to 1,075 megawatts (2007: 676 megawatts). By contrast, worldwide new installations in the wind power system market climbed by 37% according to GWEC (Global Wind Energy Council) to 27,539 megawatts (2007: 20,073 megawatts).
Nordex performed particularly well in the new volume markets of Italy, France and the UK, achieving market share in the high dou-ble digits. In Europe, the most important regional market for wind power technology, Nordex was able to further extend its position, gaining a share of some ten percent of the market in 2008, up from seven percent in the previous year. “Our expansion strategy in Europe has paid off in full. Next on the agenda are the establishment of and extensions to our activities in the Far East and overseas,” said CEO Thomas Richterich.
To date, Nordex has executed only individual projects in the United States. However, last year it opened its new US headquarters in Chicago and secured land in Arkansas for its planned production facility. In China as well, where Nordex has been producing locally since 1998, extensions are being planned to satisfy the strong demand. In this market, Nordex’s sales volume has more than tripled, while the market volume has almost doubled.
