USA - Gamesa announces changes in operations
Gamesa officials say there are no immediate plans to hire any additional workers. But the role of the Ebensburg plant in company operations is growing in importance. Gamesa announced this week that a change in operations means that by this coming Spring, all of the company's wind turbine blade manufacturing will be done at this plant.
Some of those Blades had been made in at a plant in the Philadelphia area. But because the new generation of blades will be even longer than the model currently manufactured, all of that work on blades will be consolidated in the Cambria County plant which was designed and built specifically for blade making. Closing down the blade production line near Philadelphia will affect about 184 Gamesa workers. But the company spokesperson says many of those employees may be put to work building other parts of the wind turbine structures.
The Gamesa plant outside of Ebensburg in Northern Cambria County already employs about three hundred people. The company's representative says the expanded production line should mean additional people will be hired eventually.
