Germany - REpower completes new offshore wind turbine
REpower Systems has completed the assembly of the first three REpower 6M turbines in Bremerhaven, Germany. The new 6 MW offshore wind turbines will be installed at the Westre civic wind farm on the German-Danish border for a testing program and checks for certification according to the DIBT classification.
The new 6M turbine technology is based on REpower's 5M turbine. The two turbines have the same dimensions, allowing the 6M turbine to be used on all projects planned for the earlier type. Series production of the offshore wind turbine will take place at the company's Bremerhaven facility.
REpower CEO Per Hornung Pedersen, said, "With the first installation of the REpower 6M, which is due to take place shortly, we are once again proving our leading technological position in the field of multi-megawatt turbines. We expect that the Offshore division will continue to grow in importance and that the future of wind energy in Europe will be found to a large extent on the open seas."
At the beginning of 2009, REpower expects to sign a previously announced framework agreement with RWE Innogy, providing 250 5M and 6M offshore wind turbines.
