UK - Ainscough uses Liebherr crane to assemble wind turbine
Ainscough used a 500t Liebherr LTM1500 mobile crane to enable Ecotricity to assemble Somerset’s first wind turbine at Shooters Bottom.
The 2MW turbine has a 65m hub height and will generate close to seven million units of electricity each year, providing power for up to 2,000 local homes - around 5% of all homes in Mendip District.
During the six day job, the crane was initially rigged with 135t of counterweight, and the main boom guyed, to erect the tower sections which weigh up to 53t.
It was then reconfigured with a 42m luffing fly jib to lift the 51t generator, hub and blades.
