GL certifies first Sinovel Wind Turbine

Hamburg, 25 April 2008 - According to the report from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), China's energy consumption will rise to 4,500 TWh per year in 2015. In order to satisfy the demand for energy, China opens up new energy resources: Wind energy in particular is of growing importance. Sinovel, a leading Chinese wind turbine manufacturer, has now developed its own 3-MW wind turbine - with GL certification.

Germanischer Lloyd is in charge of certifying the complete design of the 3-MW wind turbine "SL 3000", which will be available as onshore and offshore version. The experts will carry out the wind turbine design assessment according to their own and international rules and directives. The process comprises the assessment of all installation components including tower, rotor blades, mechanical as well as electrical components and safety system.
