USA - American Superconductor licenses wind turbine design In India
American Superconductor Corp. of Devens has licensed its proprietary wind turbine design to an Indian company.
The company, Ghodawat Industries Pvt. Ltd., already manufactures and sells wind turbine towers and runs wind farms in four Indian states. With the American Superconductor technology, Ghodawat plans to manufacture complete turbines for sale in the Middle East, Southern Asia and Africa.
Ghodawat plans to begin manufacturing 1.65 megawatt turbines in 2009. American Superconductor will receive a multi-million dollar upfront license fee and a royalty payment for the first 550 turbines produced. It also has right of first refusal to provide the electrical systems and components for the turbines.
