Turkey - Zorlu's 300 Mln Euro wind power investment

"The weather vanes will start producing energy in mid-2009"

Zorlu Holding`s Energy Group plans to invest 300 million Euro in wind power.

"Our group is going to generate 135 MW of electricity from 54 weather vanes in Hasanbeyli and Bahce towns of (southern province of) Osmaniye," Omer Ozkan, a project engineer of the energy group, told AA correspondent on Thursday.

Ozkan said it is quite possible to meet energy need of Turkey from geothermal, wind and hydroelectrical resources. "We have completed infrastructural studies and got required permits," he told.

Ozkan said they will import weather vanes from Germany and Spain in the second half of this year. "The weather vanes will start producing energy in mid-2009," he told.

Ozkan said the group plans to assemble 110 more weather vanes as a second project, and raise its production capacity to 245 MW.
