USA - H-E-B and the Wind Energy Corp. launch wind energy study

H.E. Butt Grocery Co. (H-E-B) and the Wind Energy Corp. are joining forces to study the commercial application of wind energy. Beginning in March, Wind Energy will install a wind turbine at H-E-B's Weslaco Retail Support Center and spend 18 to 24 months collecting data and researching the wind power potential.

"The formation of this of this partnership and the launch of this project is a unique opportunity for us to conduct our business in a responsible and sustainable way while contributing to the development of revolutionary energy solutions," says Shelley Parks, H-E-B's South Texas spokesperson.

H-E-B's Weslaco, Texas, site was chosen over 18 other potential H-E-B pilot sites in Texas because of its wind conditions and secure location. The project will allow Wind Energy to measure how much electricity the system will provide and examine the possibilities for future power distribution. Wind Energy's vertical axis wind turbine will perform over a wide range of wind speeds, with a peak capacity of 25 kilowatts to 50 kilowatts. Based in Elizabethtown, Ky., Wind Energy is a wind harvesting company that uses its self-designed vertical axis turbine to help companies achieve sustainable power. San Antonio-based H-E-B is an independent grocery store chain with retail stores in more than 150 communities throughout Texas and Mexico.
