Canada - Western Wind Energy Corp. secures new 100 Megawatt wind energy and solar site
Western Wind Energy Corp., a Vancouver-based developer of wind project in the United States and Eastern Canada, says it has secured a new 100 Megawatt wind energy and solar site near Barstow, Calif.
Financial terms of the acquisition, announced Thursday, were not revealed. The Barstow project is the first of many new acquisitions Western Wind hoples to make in California, one of the biggest wind power and solar power producing states in the U.S.
"There was tremendous competition from the largest players in the investment banking and energy industries to acquire this exact piece of property," said Jeff Ciachurski, CEO of Western Wind.
"Western Wind´s access to proprietary information dating back to the 1970s allowed Western Wind to make and complete the opportunity, literally, a few weeks before our competition."
Western Wind Energy is North America´s largest producer of pure wind energy, with 34.5 Megawatts of clean renewable electrical energy from more than 500 wind turbine generators California and Arizona. The company also has a wind farm in Grand Manan, N.B.
