Vestas receives order in Kansas, USA

Vestas has received an order for 33 units of the V90-3.0 MW wind turbine in the USA. Vestas will supply and commission the turbines which will be installed at the Central Plains Wind Farm, a 99 MW project in Wichita County between Leoti and Scott City in western Kansas.

RES Americas, Inc., a leading wind development company and subsidiary of Renewable Energy Systems Ltd in the UK, is developing and constructing the Central Plains Wind Farm and has placed the order for the 33 wind turbines. The company is currently developing more than 1,000 MW of wind power capacity in North America. The wind power plant ill be owned and operated by Westar Energy, Inc., the largest electric utility in Kansas, and forms part of Westar’s wind energy program, which will be the largest of its kind in Kansas to date.

“Kansas has clearly demonstrated its commitment to wind power as a clean, reliable and local form of power generation. We have very positive expectations for the future for wind power in Kansas, and it is a great pleasure for us to partner with RES Americas and Westar Energy and in this way participate in the development of the state’s wind resources,” says Jens Søby, President of Vestas Americas A/S.

The order also comprises a five-year service and maintenance agreement. Delivery and commissioning of the 33 wind turbines is scheduled for the second half of 2008.

The above order does not affect Vestas’ expectations for 2007 and 2008, cf. Company announcement No. 35/2007 of 6 November 2007.
