India - Suzlon to build wind power projects in Punjab
In its first ever move towards wind power, northern Indian state of Punjab has entered into an agreement with leading wind energy company Suzlon to build two power projects. Memorandum of understanding by state-owned Punjab energy and Suzlon is to set up two wind power projects in the state worth Rs.5 billion. The wind power projects, 50 MW each, are proposed to be set up in Hoshiarpur and Muktsar districts of the state. A company official said, the windmills being installed will be at the height of 70-80 metres to tap maximum wind and latest technology will be introduced to exploit wind power in non-coastal areas like Punjab. Suzlon, a Rs.50 billion company, has a production capacity of 3,000 MW of wind turbines per year.
