MingYang Smart Energy Group Presents 11 MW Offshore Turbine with Hybrid Drive Train
As Chinese company MingYang Smart Energy Group explains, the technical development of wind turbines has led to a change in the drive system: from traditional double-fed type to direct drive to hybrid drive, which combines various technological advantages.
MySE11-203, which has now been introduced, is the world's largest wind turbine with hybrid drive. It was designed on the basis of IEC wind class IB and has an output of 11 MW, a rotor diameter of 203 meters and a 31% higher annual energy production than its predecessor.
Its 99 meter carbon-glass hybrid blades provide a swept area of 32,365 m2, about the size of 5 standard football pitches. The prototype of this offshore wind turbine is expected to be erected in 2021 and be commercially available in 2022, contributing with high reliability to robust wind energy growth and lower LCoE.
Motivated by the strong growth of the European offshore wind market, MingYang has recently established the European Business & Engineering Center in Hamburg, Germany, to introduce the latest offshore turbine products to the European market and to deepen the technical cooperation with its partners in Europe.
