Britain leads the way: Powered without coal
The UK has successfully shown to the world, how quickly you can turn around your energy mix. Just a few years ago, coal had a share of almost 25 percent in the country's energy mix. Now, for the first time ever, the UK was completely powered without coal, as British grid operator National Grid posted on Twitter on Friday.
This was caused on the one hand by a low demand for energy just before the weekend and on the other hand, by a storm front which provided for a strong share of wind energy.
And while countries like Germany still haven't finalized a date for their exit of coal, the British lead the way: their coal exit will happen during the coming years.
