News Release from Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy
Wind Industry Profile of
Largest onshore wind energy service contract to date for Siemens
Siemens has signed a long-term agreement with the U.S. energy company MidAmerican Energy to provide service and maintenance for 958 SWT-2.3 turbines at 12 wind projects in Iowa. This represents the largest combined onshore service agreement to date for Siemens globally. Combined, these 12 wind projects have the capacity to generate more than 2.2 gigawatts (GW), enough to provide approximately 665,000 average U.S. homes with clean energy.
Under terms of the agreement, Siemens will provide approximately 10 years of service and maintenance for eight MidAmerican Energy wind projects currently in operation as well as four additional projects that are scheduled to become operational during the term of the agreement.
“With nearly 30 percent of Iowa’s electricity generated by wind energy, the continued, reliable energy production coming from this technology is of critical importance to power consumers across the state,” said Randy Zwirn, president and CEO of Siemens Power Generation Services. “We look forward to providing our service and maintenance solutions to MidAmerican Energy to help ensure the optimal performance of these wind projects in Iowa over the next ten years.”
Siemens currently provides service and maintenance for more than 3,100 installed wind turbines in the Americas region and more than 7,600 globally, with a combined generating capacity of approximately 18 gigawatts (GW).
