ITW WindGroup Completes Substation Grouting at West of Duddon Sands OWF
A joint venture between Scottish Power Renewables and DONG Energy West of Duddon Sands Limited, this wind farm will comprise a total installed capacity of 389 MW and supply renewable energy for more than 300,000 households in the UK.
Under the planning stage of the installation there was estimated the need for 100 tons of Ducorit® S5 UHPC material to conduct the grouting. This calculation on the prior stages of the project has shown to be accurate, which has helped to save both time and resources.
Ducorit® was developed especially for offshore operations, there durability and low chloride penetration of grouting material are crucial. With the compressive strength of up to 200 MPa, Ducorit® does not mix with sea water under grouting and has fast strength development. These product features combined with careful planning on the earlier stages of the project helped ITW WindGroup to finish the work in time, and the actual grouting took no longer than 24 hours.
The grouting work was performed for Volker Staal en Funderingen, who has years of experience with steel fabrication and foundation sectors in Europe. The transportation was carried by Scaldis SMC.
Since the grouting of the first major offshore wind farm, the Ducorit brand has remained the global leader in offshore grouting. Spanning two decades the company has grouted over 1900 offshore wind foundations at 70% of all wind farms in the world.
On the 1st of November Densit® and Ducorit® became brands of the ITW Polymers Europe group, a division of ITW (Illinois Tool Works). ITW is one the world’s most diversified industrial companies, with a sales turnover in 2012 of USD 18 billion and more than 65,000 employees world-wide. ITW Polymers Europe is working in partnership with the ITW WindGroup.
