Nordex receives Welsh wind farm order
Project development company Pennant Walters has now ordered five N100/2500 and four N90/2500 wind turbines for the Welsh wind farm “Mynydd Bwllfa” together with premium service for a period of 15 years.
Following a contract for 52.5 megawatts in 2011, this is the second order which Pennant Walters, a subsidiary of the Walters Group, has placed with Nordex: “The fact that we have received a further order for our strong-wind technology from an existing customer in our core UK market is of great significance for us,” says Lars Bondo Krogsgaard, a member of Nordex SE’s Management Board.
Work on constructing the “Mynydd Bwllfa” (“mountain pass”) wind farm will commence in October 2014 in South Wales near the town of Hirwaun. With annual average wind speeds of 8.6 m/s at this rugged highland site, the robust N90/2500 and N100/2500 turbines will generate around 60 gigawatt/hours of electricity a year. After the wind farm goes into operation in 2015, it will be producing clean electricity for around 15,000 homes in this region, which was once a centre of coal mining and steel production.
