The 15 June is Global Wind Day! - Discover the power of wind!
Discover the power of wind - Global Wind Day is a day for discovering the power of wind energy and the possibilities it holds to change our world. Hundreds of thousands of people are involved in the production of energy from the wind, but for many people, wind energy is a mystery. Global Wind Day is the day when you can visit wind farms, meet experts, attend events and find out everything you want to know about wind energy.
Global Wind Day on 15 June is getting closer and closer, and last weekend EWEA’s and GWEC’s international photo competition ‘Wind in Mind’ came to a close.
The interest and number of submissions has been overwhelming. All corners of the world are represented in the 2,100 photographs that were sent in from over 65 countries.
Photographers were invited to let their imaginations take the lead and capture wind energy technology in a dramatic and innovative new ways. The six winners will be chosen by an expert jury and announced on Global Wind Day, 15 June. The overall winner will receive a €1,000 Amazon voucher and the runners-up are in line for one of five €250 vouchers. Furthermore, the Swedish company Wind in Mind, which designs and produces beautiful and useful products made from sailcloth, will offer each winner wash bags and a matching purse.
All the winning pictures will be displayed outdoors in the EU area of Brussels from 15-29 June in cooperation with ENEL Green Power. The overall winning photo will also become part of an online professional photography collection, www.hardrainproject.com, and will be published in renewable energy newspaper ‘Recharge’ and in the September issue of wind energy magazine Wind Directions.
The jurors are likely to have a difficult job agreeing on their favourite photos as the quality of the pictures submitted has been overwhelming.
Global Wind Day is coordinated by EWEA and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), along with almost 50 partners. On and around 15 June, hundreds of wind energy-related events and activities are being organised around the world: why not check out what’s happening near you?

WORLD WIND DAY AMBASSADOR - Jeremy Wates, Secretary General, European Environmental Bureau
'I firmly believe that wind energy can make a major contribution towards greening and cleaning the energy we use. It is high time that, in combination with reducing the amount of energy we use in the first place, we harness sources of energy that are clean, free and inexhaustible. The recent developments in the wind energy sector in Europe are evidence that this can be done if we create the right incentives.'
