Germany - Applications open for course of studies in offshore wind

October will see the start of the first class for the internationally oriented course of studies in offshore wind

Applications for the Continuing Studies Programme Offshore Wind Energy opened on 1st February. All application documents must be submitted to the ForWind Centre for Wind Energy Research at the University of Oldenburg in Germany by 30th June 2012. The first academic class of the internationally oriented course will start in October 2012 with 24 participants.

The range of courses on offer is aimed at professional and managerial staff in the offshore wind and maritime sectors. The distance-learning course for professionals will be supplemented by seminars in Bremerhaven and Oldenburg. It will cover wind farm design, project development, installation, service and operation. Graduates of the course, which will be taught in English, will receive a graded certificate from the University of Oldenburg after nine months of study. Tuition for the 2012/2013 pilot phase is €10,500.

Academic advanced and higher education courses which even come close to meeting the need for experts and managers in the offshore wind sector are almost non-existent. ForWind, the WAB wind energy agency, and the town of Oldenburg are stepping up with their offshore wind course. The project partners have been working together successfully for more than five years already and provide a higher education course in wind energy technology and management for onshore wind energy. “That is why it was obvious for the organisers to offer a similarly structured advanced training course for offshore wind energy,” says Stephan Barth, managing director of ForWind.
