Ørsted completes construction of combined wind and solar project in Texas

Ørsted today announced the completion of Helena Energy Center, a 518 MW combined wind and solar project located in Bee County, South Texas.

In a landmark deal, Ørsted will sell a further one million tonnes of carbon removal over a ten-year period to Microsoft from Avedøre Power Station, which is part of the bioenergy carbon capture and storage (BECCS) project ‘Ørsted Kalundborg CO2 Hub’. This new agreement builds on an existing commitment by Microsoft to buy 2.67 million tonnes from Asnæs Power Station, bringing the total purchase under contract to 3.67 million tonnes of CO2.

The Australian Government has announced that it has granted a feasibility licence for Ørsted’s first offshore wind project in Australia and intends to grant a licence for a second project, subject to consultation. With the licences, Ørsted aims to develop large-scale offshore wind farms off the coast of Gippsland, Victoria, to be operational in the early 2030s.

North Lincolnshire firm AMS Trenchless has been awarded the cable landing works contract on Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm.

Ørsted has signed an agreement with funds managed by Schroders Greencoat, a global specialist asset manager focusing on renewable energy infrastructure assets, to divest its remaining 25 % minority interest in the London Array Offshore Wind Farm in the UK. The total value of the transaction is GBP 717 million (DKK 6.17 billion).

Ørsted, the global offshore wind leader, has commissioned three “industry-first” nearshore artificial nesting structures (ANS) specially designed to house kittiwake, a vulnerable species of seabird, off the East Suffolk coastline.
