Wind Energy Ireland has published its latest monthly report, which shows that wind energy provided 32 per cent of Ireland’s electricity in September 2023. The volume of electricity generated by wind in September 2023 was up by 25 per cent when compared with September 2022.

The month of May brought some good news for Irish consumers as wholesale electricity prices fell for the fifth consecutive month this year. That is according to Wind Energy Ireland, who today published their monthly wind energy report.

Irish wind farms had a strong start to the year with a new record for the most electricity ever produced in the month of January. The January Wind Energy Report showed that 41 per cent of the country’s power came from wind last month, up 9 per cent on January 2022, but the industry warned delays in the planning system were slowing the delivery of new wind farms.

Irish consumers avoided paying €2 billion for gas last year because the country’s wind farms provided 34 per cent of our electricity, up four points on 2021. The figures come from a new analysis published today by energy specialists Baringa entitled 'Cutting Carbon, Cutting Bills: Analysis of gas savings delivered by wind farms in 2022'.

Wind Energy Ireland welcome the publication today of the Climate Action Plan 2023 and stressed the need for Government, industry and communities to work together to implement the plan as quickly as possible.

The annual Building Communities report from Wind Energy Ireland shows that wind farms delivered more than €4.3 million in funding to local projects last year via community benefit funds. This marks an increase of over €300,000 on 2020 and reflects the continuing growth of renewable energy.
