Wind Industry Profile of
MHI Vestas Offshore Wind: 9 MW turbine close at hand
On Thursday, December 1, 2016, the company's prototype broke the power generation record for a commercially available offshore wind power plant at Østerild (Denmark) and produced 216,000 kWh (actually 215,999.1 kWh) over a period of 24 hours.
"We are confident that the 9 MW machine has now proven that it is ready for the market and we believe that our wind turbine will play an integral part in enabling the offshore industry to continue to drive down the cost of energy," explained Torben Hvid Larsen, CTO at MHI Vestas Offshore.
The 9 MW wind turbine is part of the company's product portfolio. The turbine is based on the V164-8.0 MW, a system already installed in the 258 MW Burbo Bank Extension wind farm in the UK.
