It is the first joint project of AREAM and juwi: In December 2017, Dusseldorf-based asset management Company AREAM acquired the Perl Wind Park located in the west of the Saarland. The park was developed by juwi and consists of six Enercon E-115 wind turbines. The six wind turbines are scheduled to be fully operational by the end of March 2018 and will then annually produce climate-friendly electricity for about 19,000 households. Technical O&M services are provided by juwi after the park’s completion. AREAM GmbH will provide the commercial management services.

“After a very cooperative acquisition process we are looking forward to the further collaboration during the wind park’s daily operational process in the upcoming years,” says Markus Voigt, AREAM’s Managing Partner. “We are delighted to have won AREAM as a new partner and are looking forward to a successful long-term cooperation,” juwi-CEO Michael Class adds.

The Perl Wind Park is located in the German district of Merzig-Wadern, close to the German-Luxemburg-French border. The park was approved according to the German “Bundes-Immissionsschutzgesetz” in 2016 after six years development time. The first three Enercon E-115 turbines have been connected to the grid according to plan in late 2017. The remaining three are scheduled to be connected to the grid by the end of Q1 2018. Part of the overall project is an extensive concept with various compensation measures with regard to the protection of nature and landscape.

“The Perl wind park with its very good wind conditions is a textbook example for the potential of wind energy in Germany’s southern states. In order to utilize this opportunity for a decentralized power generation prospectively, we need a political response. The framework has to be created in a way that enables the regional expansion of onshore wind energy again,” says juwi-CEO Michael Class. Almost all projects that have been awarded in the first three rounds of the tender system are located in the northern and eastern parts of Germany.
