TÜV SÜD awards Nordex Group with DIBt type approval for 179-metre hybrid tower developed in-house for the N175/6.X turbine

TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH is the first certification body to receive accreditation from the German accreditation body DAkkS for the testing and certification of hydrogen generation systems and electrolysis systems in accordance with ISO 22734:2019. This enables manufacturers of hydrogen systems to prove the safety, quality and performance of their products.

Germany aims to cover 80 per cent of its energy from renewable sources by 2030. Further expansion of wind energy and the swift establishment of a hydrogen economy are critical in this context. By providing comprehensive services in the areas of wind energy, photovoltaics and hydrogen, TÜV SÜD supports the energy industry in reaching this ambitious goal. (Hall 2, Stand 2C12)

In 2022, 130 hydrogen refuelling stations went into operation worldwide, 73 of them in Asia and 11 in North America. 45 new hydrogen stations opened in Europe, again more than ever before. Like in the previous year, South Korea was the country adding the largest number of new stations. This is the result of the 15th annual assessment of H2stations.org, an information service of Ludwig-Bölkow-Systemtechnik (LBST). Meanwhile hydrogen refuelling is available in 37 countries.

Dr Johannes Bussmann (53) has been appointed the new Chairman of the Board of Management of TÜV SÜD AG with effect from 1 January 2023. Under the company’s succession planning, he takes over this role from Prof Dr Axel Stepken (64), who was at the helm of the company for more than 15 years.

In early September Vattenfall started operation of its Kriegers Flak wind farm in the Baltic Sea off the Danish coast. On behalf of Vattenfall, TÜV SÜD has supported the project since 2018 and has now successfully completed certification of the project. Certification was carried out in accordance with the Danish executive order BEK 73.

Offshore wind energy is playing an increasingly important role worldwide. In regions impacted by tropical storms, wind energy converters (WECs) are exposed to extreme weather conditions. TÜV SÜD has developed a computer model to demonstrate suitability for these regions based on the international IEC 61400 standard within the scope of type certification.

TÜV SÜD has announced that it has won the contract for wind condition analysis and AEP (annual energy production) assessment services for the next phase of an offshore wind farm project off the south-west coast of South Korea, which started commercial operation in 2019.

Nordex has commissioned TÜV SÜD to carry out type certification of their latest wind turbine generators (WTG) N149/5.X and N163/5.X. The turbines are designed for land-constrained markets in Europe as well as other global markets, such as the USA and Australia. Type certification of wind turbines is a procedure recognised at international level for establishing that these complex technical systems comply with international standards.

Offshore wind-turbine generators (WTG) can be realised even in deepwater areas using floating foundations. TÜV SÜD certified the innovative support structure, developed by an industrial consortium headed by ESTEYCO. The certificate was handed over at WindEurope 2019 in Bilbao.

TÜV SÜD will support the realization of the new offshore wind farms, Danish Kriegers Flak in the Baltic Sea off Denmark and Vesterhav Nord and Vesterhav Syd in the North Sea. The contract, placed by Vattenfall, covers certification of the design and manufacturing phases as well as of transport, installation and commissioning.

TÜV SÜD has successfully completed project certification for the Sandbank offshore wind farm. The wind farm is a joint venture between the two energy companies, Vattenfall (51 per cent) and Stadtwerke München, the Munich utilty (49 per cent). TÜV SÜD’s experts have supported the large-scale project over the past 30 months.

In 2015, Germany's Federal Network Agency for Electricity, Gas, Telecommunications, Post and Railway (Bundesnetzagentur, BNetzA) published the IT Security Standard under the terms of the Energy Industry Act (Energiewirtschaftsgesetz, EnWG) to ensure the security of the national energy supply. Under this IT Security Standard, transmission system operators (TSOs) have the obligation to establish an Information Security Management System (ISMS) and have this ISMS certified by 31 January 2018 at the latest.
