Especially in Europe with its shallow coastlines, more and more wind farms use the constant breeze on the ocean to produce clean energy. However, conventional offshore turbines are anchored to the seabed. That's why worldwide still many regions are excluded from this type of energy production, as the sea floor drops steeply already close to the coast. For years, researchers have therefore been trying to develope floating turbines which are no longer tied to specific water depths. After many setbacks, the first offshore wind farm with floating turbines will be built.
