WindEnergy Hamburg:Free conference programme to lend crucial impetus to the energy transition

In the twelfth edition of the mood barometer WEtix, the positive assessments given six months ago for Asia remain largely unchanged while values for North America have changed only slightly and Germany and Europe are clearly trending downwards. Australia, South America and Africa, summarily referred to as “rest of world”, improve somewhat, no longer taking last place.

In the eleventh edition of the WEtix report, the positive assessments given six months ago for Germany, Europe, North America and Asia remain largely unchanged. Following a slight downturn during the last six-month assessment period, the latest survey shows a minute improvement.

According the recent DNV report ‘Floating Offshore Wind: The next five years’, floating wind gives access to abundant deep water wind resources and offers at least four times more sea space compared to turbines with bottom-fixed platforms.

The Netherlands has excellent natural conditions for wind power. And the dutch government is betting heavily on offshore wind farms: In 2050 all energy used in the Netherlands must come from renewable sources and offshore wind is key to the transition to a zero-carbon energy supply.

Green hydrogen will be one of the mainstays in the climate-neutral energy system of the future - especially in places where demand for energy is high or cannot be covered using traditional battery solutions for reasons of cost, weight or space. In order to guarantee the usability of this energy medium at any time and in the required quantity, investments and rapid development of the infrastructure for transporting and storing hydrogen are now necessary.

The eighth edition of the WindEnergy trend:index continues to draw an optimistic picture of the mood in the international wind industry. Assessments of the market situation are similar across nearly all regions of the world: the current situation is still seen as positive, if with some slightly lower values compared to the most recent surveys. However, the outlook for the market situation in two years is very positive for both, onshore and offshore wind. All regions have achieved their highest marks since the beginning of the WEtix, in some cases nearly reaching the maximum level on the scale.

The data published in the seventh issue of the WindEnergy trend:index reflect the most positive mood ever observed in the international wind energy sector. In particular, the long-term market expectations are a major factor contributing to the optimistic assessment of onshore and offshore wind.

Even COVID-19 wasn’t able to stop the international wind energy sector from networking and engaging in a professional conversation: At its debut from 1 to 4 December 2020, the first digital WindEnergy Hamburg succeeded in bringing the global wind industry together at a challenging time.

WindEnergy Hamburg, the leading global trade event, will not be held on the Hamburg exhibition campus this year. Instead, Hamburg Messe und Congress plans to host a fully digital event in response to the coronavirus pandemic and its global impact on trade fairs and international travelling.

India will be featured at WindEnergy Hamburg 2020. According to the GWEC Annual Report 2019 the South-Asian nation is the world’s fourth-largest onshore wind market, boasting 37.5GW total installations. The consultancy Wood Mackenzie sees two fundamental drivers in place to sustain market growth: rising energy demand and political ambition.
