The Wader System
THE CURRENT SITUATION:
every year, hundreds of new wind turbines are installed in Germany, europe and the rest of the world. For the assembly of their wind turbines, many ma- nufacturers work together with global suppliers who specialize in the production of specific components. To ensure the smooth running of the “supply chain”, encompassing manufacture, transportation and in- stallation, “just-in-time logistics” are essential.
However, at present, there is no standardized system in place to store or trans- port wind turbine components. on the contrary – the procedures are anything but uniform. Various storage and transport systems exist. more often than not, components have to be stored and secured differently for each method of transportation. There are also many different types of lifting apparatus for the loading and unloading of components. The incompatibility and inconsistencies of such methods lead to unnecessary delays and increase the risk of material damage. The potential to save time in this logistical area is enormous.
The Wader System
The German limited company Wader-WiTTisGmbH has now developed an integrative system, appro- ved and certified by Germanischer Lloyd and a pa- tent has been applied for. The integrated system can be applied to storage, transportation and installation of wind turbine components, on- and offshore. it is completely standardized and utilizes the container frames on trucks, inland navigation and seagoing vessels, as well as jack-ups. precious time can thus be saved in the transportation and installation of wind turbines. at the same time, the system reduces to a minimum the risk of damage in transit and assembly.
Wader-WiTTis GmbH can draw on extensive expertise in the field of stowage and transport systems. it is namely a subsidiary of the Wader Group which has equipped more than 70 container ships in the last decade alone with standardized and certified stowage and shipping lock systems. design, manufacture, assembly and inspection – all part of the turn-key service. The Wader group of companies was founded in 1951 and now gene- rates global turnover in excess of 40 million euros.
