Germany - Vestas receives 51 MW wind power order

The Groß Eilstorf Wind Farm is located in Lower Saxony, Germany

Underlining the productivity and business case of Vestas’ newest 3 MW wind turbine, Vestas Central Europe has received an order for 17 V112-3.0 MW turbines from Windpark Groß Eilstorf GmbH.

The Groß Eilstorf Wind Farm is located in Lower Saxony, Germany. The project has a total capacity of 51 MW and the wind turbines are scheduled to be installed in 2011.

The contract includes supply, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines, foundations, a VestasOnline® Business SCADA system and a 15-year service agreement.

“Vestas is very pleased to see another order for the V112 from this important customer,” says Hans Jörn Rieks, President of Vestas Central Europe. “Lower Saxony is a growing region for wind energy in Germany and we think the V112-3.0 MW is an ideal wind turbine to maximize wind power production in the region.”

Fritz Laabs, Project Developer and Managing Director of Wind Park Groß Eilstorf GmbH, is an experienced wind farmer and a Vestas customer. He has invested in several collective wind farms mainly in the area of Dithmarschen. He says: “The Groß Eilstorf Wind Farm is a complex site, with 52 different landowners. Therefore, it was of great importance that the wind turbines provide the absolute greatest productivity from the available wind resources. After considering various suppliers, a delegation of landowners from Groß Eilstorf visited Vestas’ R&D Centre in Aarhus, Denmark. After this experience in Aarhus, we decided to choose Vestas as our turbine supplier. The V112 turbine will optimise energy production from the site and will provide us with the best return of investment,” he explains.

The V112-3.0 MW wind turbine is the product of Vestas’ 30 years of knowledge and passion for wind energy and the experience that comes with installing over 41,000 turbines in 65 countries across five continents. Vestas’ focus on constant innovation and on applying new technological solutions results in increased performance of our wind turbines and a low cost of energy – ensuring a top-quality business case that generates a solid return on investment for our customers.

This result comes from exhaustive design solutions and subsequent testing of the V112-3.0 MW to optimise the performance of all components and minimise turbine downtime for servicing. A new blade profile, nacelle design and cooling-system deliver optimised operation, while the new generator and full-scale converter technology deliver high, stable plant output complying with most stringent grid requirements worldwide.

The V112-3.0 MW also demonstrates Vestas’ focus on providing solutions for the entire global wind energy sector: A wind turbine that offers a better way to harness the world’s ample supplies of low and medium winds and provides excellent grid support contributing to higher grid stability, and a turbine that is easier to transport and install in sites where installing a wind farm presents significant challenges. In addition, the turbine offers very competitive noise performance through configurable noise modes with minimal loss of production.

Every single day, Vestas wind turbines deliver clean energy that supports the global fight against climate change. Wind power from Vestas’ more than 41,000 wind turbines currently reduces carbon emissions by more than 40 million tons of CO2 every year, while at the same time building energy security and independence.

Vestas is the world leader in wind technology, with a history of technological innovation and over 30 years of experience in developing, manufacturing, installing and maintaining wind turbines. Vestas was a pioneer in the wind industry and started to manufacture wind turbines in 1979. In 1987, the company began to concentrate exclusively on wind energy.

Today, Vestas operates in 65 countries, providing jobs for over 20,000 passionate people at our service and project sites, research facilities, factories and offices all over the world.
