SSB Service takes V80 under its wings

From the beginning of this year, the independent service provider SSB Service GmbH is offering maintenance agreements for Vestas WTGs for the first time. The company, located in Rheine, Germany will thus provide the servicing for five WTGs of the world-leading Danish manufacturer. These V80 wind turbines, each with an output of 2 MW, were installed in 2006 in a wind farm in North Rhine-Westphalia, containing a total of six units. As of May 2010, the company also plans to take over the servicing of the last turbine of the wind farm.

“The first maintenance agreement for Vestas turbines demonstrates our strategy of resolutely expanding our service business and extending our services to include wind turbines of other leading manufacturers. Already during the opening of our Competence Center in Norderstedt near Hamburg in August 2009, we announced our intention of further increasing the availability of Vestas 2 MW turbines of the V80 and V90 types. But we are not approaching this task without preparation. Last year we have been able to obtain the respective know-how from 15 type V80 wind turbines with the help of a co-operation partner“, explained Ulrich Schomakers, Managing Director of SSB Service GmbH.

The service team, responsible for the five Vestas WTGs in North Rhine-Westphalia, is supported by Olaf Kleesch, Head of the Competence Center. Mr. Kleesch is responsible for the servicing concepts of Vestas turbines and also aims, in this context, to further develop critical components of and around hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems.
