Mexico - First phase to develop wind power in three ejidos in Yucatan

In recent days an agreement was signed between representatives of ejidos Ixil, Sisal and Dzemul and the company Sowitec of Mexico Renewable Energy. The next step is to start with the measurements. If winds were confirmed and sufficient, such investments would begin in Yucatan.

This initiative is boosted by the program to promote public and private investment in the rural regions (FIPP), which is promoted by the delegation of the Agrarian attorney's offices.

During the measurement and assessment stage that can last up to five years, each ejido receive little more than U $ S 1000 annual, for permit to be installed the two towers with anemometers measuring intensity, frequency and direction of winds in the area.

If the wind farms are installed, the farmers receive a fixed half-yearly rent, in accordance with the number of turbines to be installed, and a variable semi-annual income equivalent to 5% of the revenues of the company mentioned. The energy generated is sold to the Federal Electricity Commission
